Joe Sargent Lifesize Silicone Bust, H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth

Originally sculpted in water-based clay using traditional sculpting methods, this is my rendition of the bus driver Joe Sargent from H.P. Lovecraft’s story The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Like other residents of the fictional town of Innsmouth, Joe is described as a human slowly mutating into a fish- or frog-like creature. The sculpture combines elements of human form with features seen on various types of fish and amphibians.

The bust is cast in silicone with a flexible foam core, hand-painted using a variety of silicone paints. The blue chambray shirt was custom fitted to the sculpture. The shirt and the flat cap are weathered to depict the worn-out clothing of the isolated residents of Innsmouth. The resin-cast eyes were custom created for the sculpture. The beard and hair consist of hand-punched synthetic hair. The bust sits atop a wooden base with custom nameplate attached. The sculpture stands approximately 21 inches tall.
